Thank you for visiting Quietly Jo. Your privacy matters to me and I’m committed to keeping your personal information safe, simple and fully in your control. This policy explains what data is collected on this site, how it’s used, and the choices you have.
This policy complies with GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) and RGPD (Règlement Général sur la Protection des Données) requirements.
Who I am
This website is run by Jo Harrison, based in France.

What personal data I collect and why
Email subscriptions
If you choose to join my email list, I collect your name (optional) and email address. I use this information to send occasional reflections, slow-living thoughts, updates and free resources. These emails are only sent with your consent, which you provide when subscribing.
You can unsubscribe at any time by clicking the link in any email.
Comments
When visitors leave comments on the site, I collect the data shown in the comments form, the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help detect spam.
An anonymised string created from your email address may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you’re using it. After your comment is approved, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
Cookies
If you leave a comment you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so you don’t have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies last for one year.
The site may also use cookies for basic website functionality and performance.
Embedded content from other websites
Posts on this site may include embedded content (for example videos, images, articles). Embedded content behaves exactly as if the visitor has visited the other website directly.
These sites may collect data about you, use cookies or embed additional third-party tracking.
Email service provider (Kit)
I use Kit to manage my email list and deliver emails. When you sign up, your data is stored and processed by Kit in order to send the emails you have requested. Kit acts as a data processor on my behalf and only processes your data according to my instructions.
Kit may store data outside the EU. When this happens, appropriate safeguards are used to protect your information.
Legal basis for processing
Under GDPR, I rely on the following legal bases for processing your data:
- Consent: for email subscriptions and marketing emails.
- Legitimate interest: for site functionality, security and comment spam detection.
You may withdraw your consent at any time by unsubscribing or contacting me.
How long your data is kept
- Email subscribers: your details are kept for as long as you remain subscribed. If you unsubscribe, your data will be deleted or anonymised.
- Comments: comments and their metadata are retained indefinitely to allow follow-up comments to be recognised.
- Analytics and cookies: retained according to standard browser and cookie expiry periods.
Who your data is shared with
I do not sell, trade or rent your personal information.
Your data may be processed by trusted third-party tools necessary for running the website (e.g. hosting providers, spam protection, analytics tools). These services only access data as needed to operate and are bound by their own privacy and security commitments.
Your rights
Under GDPR, you have the right to:
- Access the personal data I hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your data
- Withdraw consent at any time
- Request an exported file of the personal data I hold about you
- Object to or restrict processing in certain circumstances
To exercise any of these rights, please contact me.
You also have the right to complain to your local supervisory authority.
If you are resident in France you may lodge a complaint with the Commission Nationale de l’Informatique et des Libertés (CNIL).
Where your data is sent
Visitor comments may be checked through automated spam detection services.
Email subscriber data is processed by Kit.
Other essential website services may process data in the EU or internationally with required safeguards.
How your data is protected
I take reasonable steps to protect your data through secure systems, trusted third-party processors and limiting access to only what is necessary for site and email functions.

This privacy policy may be updated from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with a new updated date.
